Ban the speechwriter

I was reading a profile of Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau by stenographer Ashley Parker in an essay titled What Would Obama Say? During the interview, Ashley may have unwittingly captured a profound utterance.

The following quote was attributed to Jon Favreau, "The trick of the speechwriting, if you will, is making the client say your brilliant words while somehow managing to make it sound as though they issued straight from their own soul" (Glenn, C., 2nd edition, pg.131).

How many times have the American public been treated to the oratory salve of a leader staring squarely into a camera reading from a teleprompter and believed the words emanating from our visual media?

The disconnect is the guttural hope that the speaker may actually believe what is being spoken. Sadly, they're marionettes putting on a performance.  The Bible tells us that what comes out of the mouth is originated in the heart; however, these polished performers are no more than carbon operated phonographs producing the sounds another has prescribed.

I believe this is why the hypocrisy comes so easily to them. When there is no more thought put into a speech than line recitation, then why would they realize how idiotic they look to the public? We have seen those in the hot seat swear they did not say something that they had said only a few weeks prior. We can point and say, "You called for unity! You said you were sick of the division! You said this time would be different." And yet, the only difference is in the level of callousness. As to the Colorado through the Grand Canyon, so goes the callousness through the politician.

I know we're all growing sick and weary of it. If we are to elect those who serve at the public's will and do the public's bidding - how are we to know what one actually believes if they truly do treat 'all the world's a stage.'

Maybe just maybe, for the sake of truth; why don't we ban the speechwriter.
