In Defense of God
The atheistic reductionist view of the Creator of the
Universe and dulling Him down as an anthropomorphic, Father-Time old man
wagging his finger in the sky, is just as elementary and crude as the ‘Flying Spaghetti
Monster’ moniker given to Him. It reduces His awesomeness and majesty to that
of the old man yelling “get off my lawn.”
I, too, would be wary to worship and follow the edicts of a
‘Flying Spaghetti Monster.’ Some would even call such a thought ludicrous. And
yet, that is the argument I hear repetitiously from those who would demolish
the pillars of my faith to the ground and have me pilloried in the town square
as some voluminous lunatic.
When a Yogi repeats a mantra in an effort to obtain
mindfulness, he is viewed as enlightened and free. Yet, when a follower of
Christ is at the altar repeating prayers seeking guidance, he is viewed with contempt and almost sympathy for
being ‘less educated.’
There are a myriad of things being heralded today as New Age
Wisdom; yet, they are identical copies of practices written in Biblical text:
1.
Meditation = Joshua 1:8
2.
An Attitude of Gratitude = 1 Thessalonians 5:18
3.
Empathy is the human experience = Galatians
6:2-3
4.
Helping the poor get back on their feet = Exodus
22:25
5.
Realigning with nature = Job 12: 7-10
Those are just a few; however, there is so much more to be
gleaned when read and applied to thinking.
There are many reasons why the Bible has withstood the test of time.
This is a succinct apologist writing that pales in comparison
to the many writings aiming to expand the image of God in our finite minds. In addition, my hope is that this brief post will cause you -the reader- to give
pause and meditate on who and what God is. That it is intellectual laziness and dwarfism
for someone to reduce the Maker of Heaven and Earth to that of an old man in
the sky.
P.S. He loves you.
